CHOLERA PANDEMIC; WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOUR SELF AND YOUR FAMILY.
Cholera epidemics or pandemics occur in environments with poor hygiene. It is common among slum dwellers who have near zero or zero adherence to proper hygiene. It is common in these areas to find people engaging in poor disposal of human faecal matters. Certain agents assist in disseminating the germs and chief among them are flies. Notable among these flies are house flies and fruit flies. They usually perch on these faecal matter and eventually deposit the bacteria on foods. Cholera can also occur among people who depend on sea shells as source of proteins. However, the source of infraction, the following measures should be adopted to curtail the spread of cholera.

1 All faecal matter must be dispensed inside closed pit toilets of septic tanks. By so doing, flies are excluded.

2 All foods must be covered to ward off flies.

3 Vegetables must be washed with salt.

4 All foods must be properly cooked eaten hot.

5 People should be leary towards sea shells.

6 Strict disinfection must be observed at all  times.

7 The age old practice of keeping sliced onions with sliced top and bottom could be of help, as onion has been known to absorb toxins.

8 Community education and information.
